BSW-Solar: Design of mounting systems based on wind tunnel tests

Free Webinar

Tuesday, May 11, 2021 | 11:00am –12:00am CET | Webinar Language: German

The calculation of wind loads for PV systems on flat roofs is not uniformly regulated in Germany; there is no corresponding standard. Until now, this has led to very different dimensioning of the necessary ballast, even for similar PV systems. The webinar will present the new BSW guidance paper on the design of mounting systems based on wind tunnel tests, which for the first time compiles a uniform approach and guidance on the calculation of wind loads and the ballasting of PV systems on flat roofs.

Moderator

Dipl.-Ing. Maria Roos, Solar Engineering, German Solar Association (BSW-Solar)

Maria Roos is an engineer for renewable energies and energy efficiency and has been working at the BSW – Bundesverband Solarwirtschaft e. V. (German Solar Association) since 2017 as a technical advisor on topics including grid integration, technical operation and building regulation requirements. From 2009 to 2017, she worked at the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy and Energy System Technology (IWES) as a research assistant in the field of building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) with a focus on building regulation requirements for PV fasade modules.

Guests

Dipl.-Ing. (univ.) Tilman Elsner, Owner, ELSNER Ingenieurbüro für Bauwesen und PV

After studying civil engineering at the Technical University of Munich, Tilman Elsner concentrated on structural engineering of steel and glass constructions for architectural and industrial buildings, before he specialized, beginning 2005, in the field of structural calculation and product development of PV mounting systems and is at your disposal for numerous tasks with over 25 years of experience as a consulting engineer (civil engineering), an engineer authorized to submit building documents and an engineer authorized to provide verification of stability.

Michael Hacker, Structural Engineering Manager, Premium Mounting Technologies GmbH & Co. Ltd.

With over 15 years of experience as a civil-engineer he is responsible for constant improvement of PMT´s mounting systems and development of new products.

Dipl.-Ing. Achim Michl, CEO, Statik Michl

After studying civil engineering at the University of Karlsruhe and the Technical University of Berlin, Achim Michl worked on structural design in steel construction before specializing from 2009 on in the field of structural analysis of ground-mounted photovoltaic systems. As the founder of the engineering office Statik Michl, he together with his team plans the constructions of photovoltaic projects worldwide. The field of activity includes the development and dimensioning of new systems on land (fixed tilt and single axis tracker) and on water (floating PV). Currently, Achim Michl and his partners are involved in the further development of floating PV systems, preparing feasibility studies and designing the mooring concept.

Martin Schäfer, Mounting Systems Development, novotegra GmbH

Martin Schäfer has been involved in the development of the novotegra PV mounting system for 15 years. As a civil engineer, he is also responsible for the structural analysis, including the ballasting of the flat roof system. This also includes the planning and evaluation of the load-bearing capacity and load redistribution tests.

Dr. Cedric Zapfe, CEO/ Publicly appointed and sworn expert, Schletter Solar GmbH / Dr.-Zapfe GmbH

Dr. Cedrik Zapfe is a civil engineer and has been working in the solar industry for 15 years. As technical managing director of Schletter Solar GmbH, he is responsible for product development and engineering of the company. He is also managing director of the engineering company Dr.-Zapfe GmbH, which is active in the field of structural engineering and solar technology. Furthermore, as a publicly appointed and sworn expert for metal construction, he is also consulted in legal disputes.
