The BMZ is responsible for German official development co-operation. To this end, it develops guidelines, concepts and long-term cooperation strategies. It commissions various national and international organisations to implement these, the largest of which are GIZ and KfW.
The BMZ is intensively involved in the globally necessary energy transition with modern and climate-neutral energy systems. This also includes improving the political and legal framework conditions for the use of renewable energy sources and increasing energy efficiency.
