Individual company presentation

The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA, 19,925 employees)) is a key player in scientific and technological research and innovation in four main areas: defense and security, low carbon energies (nuclear and renewable energies), technological research for industry, fundamental research in the physical sciences and life sciences.

Considered an expert in its core skills, the CEA is fully integrated into the European research area (ERA) and continues to be a growing presence in the international arena. The CEA made the Top 100 Global Innovators list that recognises organisations having demonstrated above-the-bar innovation performance for the past 10 years (Clarivate ranking). It is also the leading French organisation that registers the most patent applications in Europe according to the European Patent Office (EPO) 2022.

Since 2005, the CEA is leading the research, development and innovation activities on INES ( the French National Institute for Solar Energy) site, near Chambéry (France) where it concentrates its activities related to solar energy and its integration into systems and grid. INES integrates laboratories from the CEA and joint research units from the University of Savoie Mont Blanc that bring their expertise to the industry, from proof of concept to technology transfer. It also supports the Institute for Energy Transition, so called “INES.2S.” to support energy transition programmation through a large academic and industrial Ecosystem.

CEA INES is an international recognized world leader in R&D for advanced photovoltaic solar technologies, their integration into electrical systems and intelligent energy management, with experimental platforms at world-class level, as well as more than 400 scientific and technological experts and very strong patents portfolio. Its activities cover the whole value chain from material/cells, modules up to full integration.
