Binational Energy Cooperation: Strong Demand for PV and Storage Systems in Germany and France

Industry News – Monday, June 20, 2022

The French-German Office for Energy Transition’s invitation to an event on business models for PV installations with integrated storage at Intersolar 2022 was met with a great response. The institution’s managing director, Sven Rösner, was pleased about having attracted 150 visitors. “The smarter E Europe proved itself to be an important place to meet our audience and to discuss new technologies and challenges. We look forward to returning next year to continue the dialog, to talk to stakeholders and to contribute to a successful implementation of the energy transition in both Germany and France,” summarized Rösner. The combination of photovoltaics and storage systems has become highly relevant as a result of both countries’ plans for a massive expansion of PV.

Visitors to Intersolar 2022 were able to learn about the legal requirements for combining PV and storage – from approval requirements for grid connection to existing subsidies as part of the innovation tenders in both countries, which are used to test new pricing mechanisms and tender models for PV and storage systems, among other things. The business models available in the respective countries were presented along with current market developments and an outlook at new market scenarios. The event featured information on both self consumption and free-standing installations. The objective was to foster information sharing between Germany and France on combined PV and storage solutions and best practices, one example being the RINGO project by RTE in Vingeanne (France), a groundbreaking project using an automatically managed large battery system. Visitors to the forum were also interested in a solution for the combination of PV, storage and e-mobility which the German photovoltaics company IBC Solar implemented for a German SME. The event’s overarching theme was the great demand for combined PV and storage solutions in both Germany and France, with special attention being given to fostering dialog between players from industry, academia and institutions.

The French-German Office for Energy Transition (DFBEW) is an information and networkng platform for both German and French players from industry and politics.
