Philipp is an international expert in island energy supply and rural electrification. He holds a PhD in engineering from the TU Berlin and studied previously business and engineering at the same University. During his studies he gained first working experiences in 2007 and 2008 working with consultancies in the field of renewable energy supply. He continued working as researcher at TU Berlin in the field of renewable energies and power generation.
For the year 2010 he joined the University of Trinidad and Tobago as guest researcher.

In 2011, he joined the Reiner Lemoine Institut and he focused on the analysis of island energy systems by conducting his PhD project "barriers for implementing renewable energies on Caribbean islands". Additionally, he started to develop the Off-Grid Systems research field which he is currently representing as teamleader.

Within the Off-Grid Systems team he develops and leads projects and strategic processes. This includes market studies and industry collaborations as well as electrification planning. Apart from that he continuously publishes and shares research results on conferences and in scientific journals acting as reviewer and co-editor as well.

During his field work he visited many Caribbean countries: Barbados, Grenada, Jamaica, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, and Trinidad & Tobago. In addition, he worked on the Cook Islands and in Nigeria.
